I would like to ask you to thank Ms Zhang again for letting this adoption happen.
Pepe is such a good dog. He is my furbaby, like another child of mine.
At the very beginning when he came to live with us he had some issues, I think they were connected with him being uncertain about the whole change in his life. I suspect that he might have been worried about living with a family again. Maybe he though we would hurt him or something.
So the first 2 weeks were about us getting to know each other, about starting to trust each other and about Pepe protecting his very private zone.
When my son was aproaching him too closely, he would growl, he once even snaped in front of my son's face. Nothing happened though, so we were just being careful about our son coming too close. Basically we let Pepe
be
alone in his private zone to give him time to get used to living with us. BUT that was then.
Now, after all this time Pepe opened up his heart and showed us his true personality.
He is loving, he plays with my son, he barks at strangers (as if protecting the house), he plays with a ball (runs like crazy around the apartment), he eats, eats and eats, he sleeps a lot - just like a normal basset :-) and I can see the love and trust in his eyes and it just shows me that it was worth fighting for him.
You would not
believe how much happier I am with him, he is healing my heart after the loss of Lulu and it feels so good to be giving him home and looking after him.
After coming to us I took Pepe to the vet we knew and he discovered some skin problems Pepe had. Not very serious, but he was getting some shots (not to let any infections happen) and the medicine I got worked so well, that the skin condition was gone after several days.
We still do not have the ID for Pepe. The man at the police station who's dealing with it contacted my husband yesterday to tell him that the ID is ready and the following week we'll get it....That was a long wait for a piece of paper :-)))
I also found out that to take Pepe out of China we need a red vaccination book and even contacted ICVS about it. They can issue it for us and Pepe will get free rabies shot. Next week once we get the ID we'll go ICVS to get it done.

带毛的宝贝，像是我的另外一个孩子。
刚来的时候，它有些不适应，可能还无法接受生活的重大转变。我猜他可能担心再过家庭生活，担心受到伤害和不测。我们通过2周与他交流沟通，互相信任，了解Pepe的内心世界。最初
我儿子离它太近时，他会低吠，有次甚至张口要咬。尽管没事发生，我们还是让儿子不要太靠近Pepe。尽量多给他自己的空间和时间熟悉我们。但这都是过去的事了。
现在Pepe已经向我们敞开心扉，展现它至真的一面。它很亲人，和我的儿子玩耍，对陌生人叫（好像在保护这个家）。喜欢玩球（围着公寓疯跑），不停的吃呀吃，睡呀谁，典型的短脚猎犬。我能从他的眼中看到爱和信任，证明为他所做的一切都是值得的。
你不知道我现在和它在一起有多开心，它帮我治愈失去Lulu的伤痛，我很高兴能给他一个家并照顾他。
我带Pepe去了医院，发现它有皮肤病。不很严重，打了几针还开了药，几天后皮肤病就好了。
我们还是没有拿到狗证。派出所的人昨天跟我丈夫说狗证已经准备好了，下周能取。一纸文书竟然要等这么长时间。
如果带Pepe出境的话，我们需要疫苗接种证书并联系ICVS （The International Center for Veterinary Services）。在那Pepe会接受免费的狂犬疫苗。下周一拿到狗证，我们就去办手续。
