警犬菲生的可悲下场

Safety Boots for Police Dogs

A police force is believed to have become the first in the UK to issue its dogs with safety boots, it was disclosed today.

Northumbria Police have introduced the special footwear for when their dogs tackle public order situations.

The boots will protect their paws from being harmed by broken glass and other sharp objects littering the streets.

Such a risk has prevented dogs being deployed to any disturbances in the past.

Now they can wear special protective boots, allowing them to walk across any surface safely.

Made by Hampshire-based Canine Spirit, the footwear is called Bark `N? Boots.

They are available in three sizes and are flexible with a hardwearing sole that grips the surface.

Public order instructor Pc Alex McLeod said: ?We are now leading the way when it comes to the safety of officers and our four-legged colleagues.

There have certainly been occasions where dogs couldn''t be deployed because they would be at risk of injuring their paws.

As far as we are aware, no other force provides protection for their dogs in this way during public order situations.

The boots are also of benefit, for example, when an officer is searching premises for a suspect after a burglary.

There is often glass on the floor but now the dog can safely be used in the search." Dog handlers are also getting new equipment with specially designed shields while officers on horseback have individual tailor made protection suits.

Sydney, Australia Police Dogs to Get Bulletproof Vests

POLICE dogs could soon be wearing body armour following the death of hero canine Titan, who died in the line of duty in Sydney last month.

POLICE dogs could soon be wearing body armour following the death of hero canine Titan, who died in the line of duty in Sydney last month.

It follows the success of protective "booties" worn by the State''s police dogs, which are being considered by UK police dog squads. Made of leather and nylon, they protect the animals'' paws against broken glass and cigarettes, and bindis in forested areas.

NSW Police dog squad acting operations manager Inspector Mark Gledson said a ballistics and knife-proof prototype was being discussed with manufacturers. A progress report on cost and design would be delivered to NSW Police Minister Carl Scully next week, he said.

"After the Titan incident, we had many calls from people wanting to donate money to buy vests," Insp Gledson said.

Titan was stabbed three times while pursuing a man after a seven-hour stand-off at a Lalor Park house in December last year.

The three-year-old had worked as a police dog for 18 months and was the first canine to be killed in the line of duty.

Dog squad Sen-Constable Linda Turpin, handler of Skip for two years, welcomed the news.

"When we search pubs and clubs for drugs, people often kick the dogs or punch them in the head," Sen-Constable Turpin said.

"It''s terrible because they are like your babies."

Insp Gledson said 60 general-purpose dogs in the 110-strong unit would be fitted with vests.

US Tactical K9 Law Enforcement Testimonials

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the fact that you do stick by your handlers. I am very thankful that I went through your school and not one of the others where they get your money and forget that you exist. Thank you very much.

There are many different reasons why I attend Mrs. Julien schools and work with one of her dogs. One reason is the continuous training and that someone is always there to help fix problems that you can''t fix. But for me its the fact that I have know Mrs. Julien for about five years now and I would trust her with my life. Nothing makes me feel better when I leave my family to go to work knowing that I am safer and better equipped because I have a very well trained companion that I also trust with my life everyday.

"As an emergency manager and disaster planning/response professional, my standards can be pretty high - and I can be pretty demanding. Not only of my subordinates but also of my canine partner. So when was looking for another search and rescue dog to train, I went to US Tactical K9 to find the right dog. With the goal of training a dog in the difficult specialty of Forensic Human Remains, I knew I had to start out with the best possible dog right from the get-go. And I found him. When I purchased Stryker from US Tactical K9, I knew I''d gotten a stable, hard-working and reliable dog - He''d have to be! Malinda not only breeds the best, but she FINDS the best!
